Recover, restore, and reuse was what Cesar Machado Moreiras’ team did with  Hotel Paço de Pombeiro.

It is a twentieth-century rural hotel in Felgueiras, Portugal with over 10 hectares of land and historic vineyard. With a strong desire to preserve and take advantage of the ruins of the castle, the architects did a 360 degrees turn to create modern design through the old.

Which was the result of this artistic twist? Well, it could not be more fresh and bright. New buildings mimic the colors of the land and recall the original buildings. Concrete towers are located at the entrance of each room so you can have the privacy that you want but of course, allowing direct relationship with the surrounding landscape.

But the pleasures of the guests are not only for the beauty of the rooms but also the open spaces and the library, kitchen and games room. A peculiar aspect that gives a unique touch to the space is the old farm-worker’s cottage renovated and which has been given a luxury makeover.

Through a carefully work that reclaims the historical ruins is born a modern and inviting space, creating a dialogue between past and future.
